Project Proposal Okweyo
I currently spend weekdays in the office of the Diocese
of Northern Uganda, meeting with coordinators of youth, education and
mission, and developing proposals for programs.
My role here has become understandably different that
what I had imagined. Instead of helping with the diocesan youth
program, I'm helping design, fund and implement a number of new
initiatives, some of which have a heavy youth component. Without
divulging potential donors, we're currently expecting sponsorship for:
a) an initiative for comprehensive (emotional, physical, economic) reconciliation
for victims of the war, in the spirit of 'healing of memories' and the
truth and reconciliation movement in South Africa after Apartheid, b)
the Peace Child Project, which seeks to educate children about the
history of the violence they have experienced, and teach peaceful
alternatives of dealing with conflict, in an effort to short-circuit a
potentially generation-wide culture of violence, c) an HIV education and VCT (Voluntary Counseling and Testing) initiative to partner with
district schools and parishes.
I now have a motorbike, thanks to St.
Martin's-Charlotte, YASC and the Diocese of Northern Uganda, and hope to
soon begin moving around the diocese for visits.
